John Michael Talbot, A musician inspired by Saint Francis of Assisi

John Michael Talbot is one of the most successful Catholic musicians of all time. His journey to Catholicism, and the top of the musical charts, was an interesting one.

He grew up in a Methodist home in Oklahoma. As a small child, he played piano and drums. He later learned the banjo and guitar.

When he was 15, Talbot left school to become a full-time musician. He also spent much of his early life on a spiritual journey.

In 1978, he converted to Catholicism. St. Francis of Assisi inspired Talbot greatly as he decided to become a Catholic.

JOHN MICHAEL TALBOT

"Francis really is responsible for inspiring me to get me to get radical for Christ and to come into the Catholic Church.

Talbot has released more than 50 albums over his decades-long musical career. He has also sold millions of records. His most recent musical album is called "Worship and Bow Down."

One of his major focuses is reviving the Catholic Church in the United States. He believes that better preaching and better singing can help.

JOHN MICHAEL TALBOT

"The guitar is mobile. You can take it anywhere. I can take it out to the villages. I can take it into big cities, big concert halls, our out into the third world. I love it for that reason.

Today, Talbot hosts a show on The Church Channel and travels throughout the United States on ministry tours.
