Anti-abortion demonstration coincides with Vatican visit of Chilean president

They want to repeat this silent gesture in St. Peter's Square. It is in memory of all the women who had abortions and the babies who never had a chance to be born. They are called Women in White for Life. Since January, they have been lobbying the Chilean parliament to not legalize abortion.

Founder, Women in White for Life

"It's called 'abortion with restrictions.' They would allow abortion for three reasons: for rape, for a nonviable pregnancy, or for risk to the mother. It seems to me that this is truly born of ignorance and a lack of knowledge about how abortion hurts a woman.

The Pope will meet tomorrow with the President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet. The meeting inspired the group to bring this petition to her.

"I would like to tell our president: The first thing I thought of is the pain that this signifies. I would appeal to her as a woman, as a mother."

Women in White for Life works with various associations that help pregnant women and women who had an abortion. They know the consequences of this practice very well.

"Abortion kills you. It kills you. There are many consequences after abortion: Psychological consequences and physical consequences. Many women are left sterile after procedures go wrong.

For those reasons, these women have asked politicians who seek to legalize abortion to instead help mothers who lack the resources to raise their children. They said that helping these women, not ending a baby's life, is the solution to the situation.
