More than 168 million children are victims of forced labor
It's estimated that 168 million children are victims of forced labor around the world. This according to the International Labor Organization. June 12th marks the World Day Against Child Labour.
During the Angelus prayer, the Pope highlighted the need for children to have a true childhood.
"Many children around the world, don't have the liberty to play or go to school. They end up being exploited as cheap labor. I hope for a concrete commitment from the international community, so it may actively promote the rights of children.â?
Out of the 168 million children, it's estimated that 120 million of them are between 5 and 14 years old. Furthermore an estimated 85 million carry out dangerous jobs. Most of the cases of forced child labor take place in Asia with about 78 million kids and Africa with roughly 59.
The day is a way to mark not just the need to stop child labor, but to promote the rights children have to an education.
