Pope Francis meets with the Grand Master of the Order of Malta

Good morning. It's great to see you.

Thank you. You are very kind.

The warm encounter between Pope Francis and the Grand Master of the Order of Malta, Matthew Festing, focused on the situation that refugees from the Middle East and Africa are facing. They also discussed human trafficking.

The meeting took place right after the Feast Day for the Order's patron, Saint John the Baptist, which was on June 24th. It was cordial.

I hope someone here is going to do some translating

But the topic of conversation was serious. The Order of Malta develops and promotes humanitarian initiatives around the world, especially for those affected by the war.

After the meeting, the official photo with the authorities of the Order took place, and after exchanging gifts they parted affectionately.

The Order of Malta works in more than 120 countries. They have 13,500 members and 80,000 volunteers, most of whom are medical personnel.
