Marking fifty years of marriage at the general audience with Pope Francis
Roberto and Margarita just celebrated 50 years of marriage, and they wanted to celebrate in Rome. And they didn't come alone: 13 family members from Mexico and Norway joined them.
Their long marriage has been eventful, and they've faced difficult times.
"We lost two children. It's something that brought us closer together as a family. Our son died of cancer when he was 28-years-old.â?
Working with another family that also lost a child to cancer, they started a foundation that helps children and young people with the illness.
"We are two families that lost our children. We came together in the loss of two families, and help children at no cost, with the best treatments available.â?
The couple attended Pope Francis' general audience, when he spoke about how to cope with the death of a loved one. His words were particularly moving to them.
"What I enjoyed most was when the Holy Father spoke about pain, about the family, and about mourning. Because we understand perfectly what loss is, about what it means to lose children.â?
They return to Mexico with the memory of being close to Pope Francis. And now they hope he'll visit them in their own country.
