It was one year ago, when Iraqi Christians fled in masses, after their towns were overrun by ISIS. It was August 8, 2014 when refugees arrived in Jordan, looking for a safe haven. ;

It was the start of a dark chapter for Iraqi Christians...a chapter that's still open. ;

As a sign of support, Pope Francis sent a letter to the Patriarchal Vicar to Jordan, Archbishop Maroun Lahham. He along with the Secretary General of Italy's Episcopal Conference, Msgr. Nunzio Galantino are visiting some of the areas where refugees have been housed the past year. ;

In the letter, Pope Francis thanks those who have taken action to help these refugees. People who lost everything after being humiliated and threatened, for being Christian. ;

Once again, the Pope called on the international community to speak out and help these religious minorities. He also denounced the silence of those who see the religious persecution, yet do nothing to stop it, or to help the victims.
