Want to volunteer for the Jubilee Year of Mercy? Sign up!

The Year of Mercy will bring in millions of people to Rome. There will be everything from special events to celebrations with the Pope himself.

It will officially kick off on December 8th and run until November 2016. With less than a month to go, the Vatican is getting things ready. Everything from transportation to security. Volunteers are definitely needed.

GENO SYLVA

Pontifical Council for the New Evangelization

"We will need at least 100 volunteers a day. So what we are doing is we are asking women and men around the world to sacrifice, to donate, one week, to come to Rome for one week. And what we'll do, we can't afford to pay for their transportation but will pay for their stay here in Rome, their food, and insurance while they are here.â?

Volunteers will welcome all the pilgrims into churches and help out in Basilicas. For the major events, hundreds of volunteers will be needed.

The city of Rome will also have its volunteers, but the Vatican wants to have its own team as well to help coordinate.

"So they will help us guide people down the reserved walk way from Castle Sant'Angelo into the holy door of St. Peter's. They'll be at the three Jubilee churches were people are going to be able to go everyday for 365 days.â?

While the Vatican is calling on volunteers to come to Rome, it understands that for the vast majority that won't be possible. So it's wants to remind volunteers that they can also help out in their own local diocese.

"And so that's why in the first time in the Church, each diocese is having a holy door of mercy just really to make sure that it is celebrated throughout the world not only here in Rome. So people can make a pilgrimage here and we would love them to make a pilgrimage to Rome but they can also make a pilgrimage, a brief pilgrimage to their own diocese as well.

Volunteers can log onto www.im.va where they will find info on all the events and volunteer registration, in six languages.
