New Assessor for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State is named

An Italian priest, Paolo Borgia, 49, replaces American Peter Wells in a key position over the operation of Vatican machinery. He will be second in line of ;"General Affairs," which deals with "coordination between departments in the Vatican." This department is in charge of "guarding the papal seal that authenticates the most important decisions of the Pope, and the fisherman's ring with which sealed the 'papal briefs.'" This department also oversees the communication politics of the Holy See, and publishes Acta Apostolica Sedes, the official bulletin reflecting the decisions of the Pontiff.
