The Pope thanked several couples celebrating 50 years of marriage
This Wednesday the Popemobile held more passengers than normal. When the Pope saw this group of children, he couldn't help but invite them to accompany him through the square.
Along the way, he even stopped to try a traditional Argentine drink, mate, which some pilgrims brought for him from Argentina. He also took time to acknowledge some couples celebrating their wedding anniversary.
"Before I begin the catechesis I would like to greet a group of couples celebrating the fiftieth wedding anniversary. How's that for good wine! Thank you for your testimony! It's a beautiful example for newly married couples."
The Pope began a new cycle of catechesis on Jesus' miracles. He remembered the first miracle quoted in the Gospel, when he turned water into wine at the wedding in Cana.
"Water is necessary for life, but wine expresses the abundance of the feast and the joy of the feast. A wedding party where there is no wine makes the newlyweds ashamed. Imagine finishing the wedding festivities drinking tea!â?
The Pope recalled the story also includes some words from the Virgin Mary. They are her last recorded words, and so, Pope Francis considers them her final advice.
"Maryâ??s command to the servants â?? "Do whatever He tells youâ? â?? can serve as a programme of life for the Church. We are called constantly to renew our love for the Lord, and to draw new wine, new life, from his saving wounds.â?
One distraction during the audience was the sun, especially hot during this June in Rome. Therefore, the Vatican handed out umbrellas marked with their flag, so the sick in the front rows were not uncomfortable.
