Pope meets with Rome's new mayor Virginia Raggi

Pope Francis met with the new mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi.

"I'm very grateful, very grateful. Honored.

On June 22, the Eternal City elected a new mayor. It is the first time in history that a woman assumes this role.

"I appreciate you coming so soon.

The meeting lasted 20 minutes and was very cordial. The Pope gave Raggi an engraving of the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica and his most recent papal documents.

Afterwards, Pope Francis greeted the mayor's delegation. Minutes later, he cheerfully said goodbye to her.

"May the Lord bless you.
