The Brilliance: an eclectic band from the U.S. hopes to break down barriers through music
"The Brillianceâ? is an American worship band led by David Gungor and John Arndt, which includes a variety of musicians such as cellists, violinist, pianist and drummers.
The modern worship band crafts poetic music that gives listeners the opportunity to fully embrace the beauty that lies in every lyric and sound. The Brilliance creates music that crosses genres, ranging from classical to synth sounds and have been compared to groups like Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver and Arcade Fire. Their wide range of musical tones are possible due to their variety of instruments, creating a sensational orchestral sound.
"That's the thing about art, that we hope within our own music. It lets people be curious and dive into questions of why and how we view the world and how we view people and not writing people off, but how we show love to them.â?
The Brilliance draws inspiration from prayers, reflections, the Bible, as well as current events. The diverse range of symphonic sound and poetic lyrics paint a beautiful picture of their personal-led inspirations.
Their latest studio album "Brotherâ? hopes to inspire and stir the hearts of many people. They hope to share their artful music, so that all people can appreciate the beauty of Christianity. The album is based on their lyrics, "When I look into the face of my enemy, I see my brother," hoping to inspire love and reconciliation.
"You hear a song like Brother, I feel like I can show my brother-in-law, who's a Buddhist, and I can show him brother and he totally gets it. It says, "when I look into the face of my enemy, I see my brother,â? and there's a truth in that, that goes beyond just the barriers or walls within my own tradition, which would be Christianity.â?
Their music breaks down the barriers of culture, ethnicity and even religion. It allows the band to share their faith in a reflective and artistic way so that believers and non-believers can dive deeper into the resulting curiosity. The mixing of musical genres and powerful lyrics challenges the listener to be aware and interested in the deeper message hidden amongst the chords.
