Pope Francis officially establishes the commission to study the diaconate of women

Pope Francis held a meeting on May 12, 2016, inside of Paul VI hall with the Plenary Assembly of Superiors General; there he accepted to "set up an official commission that would study the issueâ? of the Diaconate women, "especially with regard to the early days of the Church.â? According to the Vatican, "after intense prayer and reflectionâ?, the Pope has decided to establish a Commission for the Study of the Diaconate of Women, appointing as president archbishop Luis Ladaria Ferrer, who is the Secretary of Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. He has also named the following as members of the commission: Sister Nuria Calduch-Benages, Member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission. Prof. Francesca Cocchini, Professor at the University "La Sapienza" and at the Patristic Institute "Augustinianum"in Rome. Msgr. Piero Coda, Dean of the University Institute 'Sophia', Loppiano, and Member of the International Theological Commission. Fr. Robert Dodaro, O.S.A., Dean Patristic Institute "Augustinianum", Rome, and Professor of Pathology. Fr. Santiago Madrigal Terrazas, S.I., professor of ecclesiology at the Pontifical University "Comillas" in Madrid. Sister Mary Melone, S.F.A., rector of the Pontifical University "Antonianum" in Rome.
