Meet the choir that sang for the pope during his visit to the Philippines, Bukas Palad

With their popular music, they carry the message of the Gospel. They have recorded 18 albums and this year they celebrate their 30th anniversary. The Bukas Palad Music Ministry is the best-known religious choir based in the Philippines.

ALI FIGUEROA

Singer, Bukas Palad

"I think we have provided a glimpse to God's voice. Some way of hearing God's voices for many many people in the Philippines and around the world.

One of the founders, Fr. Manoling Francisco, was commissioned to compose the music for Pope Francis' visit to Manila.

The choir group consists of more than 100 singers. Most are not professionally dedicated to music but sound like the best choir. They are there for two reasons: their passion for music and faith.

BAROK GUTIERREZ

Singer, Bukas Palad

"That's what we encourage also with our songs: to be open to God's prayer to work in their lives and to be open to God's message.

Bukas Palad literally means Open Palms. It symbolizes the importance of being open to new opportunities and God's message.

SHARON SALAZAR

Singer, Bukas Palad

"I like that we start and end rehearsals with a prayer so it gathers the community first before we sing. And then for performing in front of a lot of people you just have to be reminded that it's all for God. It's not about being a famous choir.

BAROK GUTIERREZ

Singer, Bukas Palad

"Open Palms connotes a spirit of generosity, a disposition for generosity. That essentially is what the group is about.

Their popular songs are heard throughout the world. In fact, other choirs have translated and interpreted their songs. The Bukas Palad Music Ministry's songs and albums can be downloaded from their website at www.bukaspalad.com.
