With the ongoing tension and violence in the Holy Land, the Pope made a call for peace, urging everyone to pray for Israel and Palestine.

As he looked over St. Peter's Square during the Sunday Angelus, he said that despite the spike in violence, the prayer meeting he hosted with the presidents of Israel and Palestine, was not in vain.

POPE FRANCIS
'Some may think that the prayer meeting was useless. You're wrong! Prayer helps us not get carried away by evil, so that violence and hate are not trumped by dialogue and reconciliation.â?

He then asked the thousands of pilgrims gathered out in the Square to take a few moments of silence to pray for peace. The Pope also read a prayer, he personally wrote.

POPE FRANCIS
'Let us hear the cries of our fellow countrymen, who ask us to transform our weapons into instruments of peace. Our fear into trust, our tension into forgiveness. Amen.â?

He also reflected on Sunday's Gospel reading, on the parable of the sower, whose seeds bore fruit in rich soil.

The Pope is on vacation. So, even though he does have private meetings, his public meetings, like his weekly general audience are not being carried out.  The Sunday Angelus prayer in St. Peter's Square,  are his only public appearances this month.
