The new ambassador of Ireland to the Holy See presented her credentials to Pope Francis.

'I would like to also take this occasion to convey greetings on behalf of the president and the Irish government, as well as the Irish people.

Emma Madigan graduated in Italian and History in 1995 and began her diplomatic career in New York, Chicago and Boston.

The ambassador introduced the Pope to her husband and son.

She also gave him a copy of the Book of Kells, an unfinished manuscript of the Gospel written by the Celts in the 9th century.

Without a doubt, the highlight of the meeting was this: when Pope Francis wanted to say goodbye to the son of the ambassador.

'Bye, bye.
