More than 500 years ago, the Delfini Palace, the current seat of the Polish embassy to the Holy See, was the home of some very special guests. From 1538 â?? 1541, the first members of the Society of Jesus, St. Ignatius of Loyola, St. Francis Xavier and St. Peter Fabre, lived there.

Now this plaque commemorates those formative years that launched one of the Church's most important orders.

Polish Ambassador to the Holy See
'It was here where they received the papal bull that inaugurated the Society of Jesus. Also, 450 years ago, the first Jesuits departed for Poland to develop their educational activities, which is very important for Poland in this time.

After receiving papal approval, a time of expansion and organization began for the Society. The former tenants went around the world and is now one of the major religious order of the Catholic Church.

'I think they are strong reasons to have this plaque here. All Romans and tourists who pass by the Delfini Palace will know that it is a place where Poland is very active and where the first Jesuits were born.

The Society of Jesus was founded on September 27th, 1540. Whether as an embassy or a residence, there is no doubt that the Delfini Palace was a key element in the founding of the order.
