It's an award that celebrates survival and life. For years, Tareke Brahne has helped migrants who leave it all behind, searching for a better future.

Tareke understands this journey personally. He too left his native Eritrea and risked everything to make it across the Mediterranean. Over the years, he has witnessed survival and tragedy.

TAREKE BRHANE
President, Comitato Tre Ottobre
'No more deaths in the Mediterranean! We want solutions and safe alternatives for all those who are forced to flee their countries.

For three days, more than ten Nobel Peace Prize Winners met in Rome to pay homage to late South African leader, Nelson Mandela. Among those in attendance were the Dalai Lama and Yemeni Tawakkol Karman.

The award, echoes a message Pope Francis has highlighted throughout his pontificate. In fact, Tareke was there next to Pope Francis, when he met with family members of migrants who drowned during a fatal shipwreck in Lampedusa.

TAREKE BRHANE
President, Comitato Tre Ottobre
'Pope Francis met with some victims and their families on October 1st. He told them that he would pray everyday so that doors are opened.â?

Pope Francis didn't go to the International Summit, but he did send a message to all those taking part, thanking them for their work in promoting peace.
