The Italian government announced that Rome is in the run to host the 2024 Olympic Games. Pope Francis met with a delegation of Italian athletes and wished them good luck.

'Here you can see some Olympic and Paralympic champions who have won thanks to their hard work and spirit of sacrifice.

In his address, the Pope explained that sport promotes education and fraternity. He highlighted that sometimes sport is not about winning, but rather about learning to loose.

POPE FRANCIS
'It gives us a challenge to which we are called, and not just athletes: accepting the hardship and  sacrifice needed to achieve important goals in life, as well as accepting one's limitations without being paralyzed by them, and eventually overcome them.â?

After his address, the Pope greeted some Paralympic athletes in a very warm way. Before leaving, Pope Francis encouraged all schools to promote sports, as he asked that it may be accessible for all, even for the weakest.
