To promote and raise awareness of the Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church, through professional work. This is the purpose of the Centesimus Annus Foundation's 'Economy and Society Award.' This year, three authors were awarded the prize by the Vatican.

MSGR. GIUSEPPE SCOTTI
Judging Committee, Economy and Society
'The award is a way to promote a culture of inclusion in a society that promotes a throw away culture and way of life. We're trying to promote a culture that will allow us to envision a better future.â?

They include Frenchman, Pierre de Lauzun who is a bank and finance specialist. As part of the  award he was given 30,000 euros. Then from Austria, there's Alexander Stummvoll and from Uruguay, Arturo Belloc Montano. Each one of the young authors won 10,000 euros.

Their work focuses on how the Social Doctrine of the Church can be applied to the world of finances, in an effort to promote ethics in economics.

DOMINGO SUGRANYES BICKEL
President, Foundation Centesimus Annus
'We believe the Social Doctrine of the Church is not really understood all that much. It's not talked about that much, even within the Church. There's a greater need for Catholics to develop concrete ways in which the Doctrine of the Church can be applied. In their books, these authors set an example.

At its very core, the award is a way to promote not just ethical economics, but rather a system where profits don't trample over individual dignity.

DOMINGO SUGRANYES BICKEL
President, Foundation Centesimus Annus
'The Doctrine of the Church highlights the need for the revival of just economic system. So having the greater good of society as a priority. It should always be in first place, not in second.â?

This is the second time the Centesimus Annus Foundation has given out the award. The actual ceremony will take place on May 26th and it will be led by the Vatican's Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
