With this greeting, Pope Francis welcomed Romanian president, Klaus Werner Iohannis, to the Vatican's Apostolic Palace. ;

The meeting is a way to mark 25 years since the Holy See and Romania established diplomatic ties. During the brief gathering, both leaders talked about the relationship between state authorities and local Catholic communities. The healthy co- existence of minorities was also discussed.

About 80 percent of the country's population is Orthodox and only four percent is Catholic.

As a gift, the president gave the Pope a framed image and the Pope gave him a medallion of the Angel of Peace and his encyclical Evangelii Gaudium.

As he usually does when he meets with world leaders, the Pope asked the president to pray for him. ;
