Helping women and children off the streets and what the Church can do to make it all happen. This was the focus of the Pope's address to the International Symposium on the pastoral care of street people.

POPE FRANCIS
'Every abandoned child or those forced to live on the streets, at the mercy of criminal organizations, are a cry rising up to God.  It is an indictment of a social system which we have criticized for decades, but which we find hard to change in conformity with criteria of justice.â?

The rise in prostitution led by criminal organizations and corruption is unacceptable said the Pope. The Church cannot be silent before this social injustice.

POPE FRANCIS
'The Church cannot remain silent, nor can Her institutions turn a blind eye to the baneful reality of street children and street women.

It's estimated that 30 million people have fallen victims of human trafficking. This is a concern that the Pope has highlighted throughout his pontificate. In fact back in the month of December, he signed an accord with leaders from other religions, all agreeing to tackle the issue together, head on.
