It will be a historic meeting between Pope Francis and the president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani. It will mark the first time since 1999, that a Pope will meet with the president of that country.

Given the recent attention the country has received, especially in light of the nuclear deal, the meeting will prove that much more interesting and challenging for the Holy See.

Back in September, the Vatican issued a statement, where it welcomed the Iran agreement and greater nuclear disarmament. But since it continues to be a thorny issue on an international scale, it will surely be addressed on by the Pope and his diplomatic team.

More than likely, the treatment of non-Muslims will also be touched on, since itâ??s actually illegal for Muslims to convert to Christianity in Iran.

The fiery comments the president has said against Israel, will probably be on the discussion list as well.

Diplomatic relations between both countries were established back in 1954.
