A biopic about Pope Francis has now been made. The film 'Call Me Francis follows the story of the Latin American pontiff, from his birth in Buenos Aires until the day he was elected Pope.

Two Argentine actors, Rodrigo de la Serna and Sergio Hernandez, portray Jorge Bergoglio through the years. The film is directed by Italian Daniele Luchetti.

DANIEL LUCHETTI
Director
'The key to this film was understanding how his past affected who he is today. Through the hells he has undergone, try to understand how one man matures, grows, and finally this incredible opportunity at the end of his life. Reaching the highest point, something he wished for as a boy.

Luchetti was fascinated with this story after one of his acquaintances defined Bergoglio as 'a worried man.' This is why the film centers around his personality.

SERGIO HERNíNDEZ
Actor, Older Bergoglio
'One of the things Daniele said to me was that he didn't care if I looked like him, but if I was like him on the interior.

RODRIGO DE LA SERNA
Actor, Younger Bergoglio
'The physical is easy, it can be wrong. But, the hardest part is approaching the spiritual dimensions of this man, who has a momentous spiritual dimension.â?

To be able to enter the heart and mind of Pope Francis, the film team underwent a lot of research. A trip to Argentina best showed them Berologio's character.

SERGIO HERNíNDEZ
Actor, Older Bergoglio
'I had to be credible, and to do this I had to speak like I'm from Argentina. That's why I went to Buenos Aires a lot of times to  learn how to speak like porteños, how people from the Flores district speak, how the places he lived in were. I also interviewed people, for example Bishop Eduardo Garcia.â?

The director does not consider himself a believer, nor has he tried to solely praise the movie's subject. Interestingly, the Carmalengo of the Vatican watched the film and enjoyed it. He even told the director how good the film is. The Vatican even screened the film for 7,000 poor people on December 1st.
