He thought they would spend a few days skiing. But instead, this man and his new wife ended up in Rome.

She only told him the truth once they were already on the plane. But the woman misled her husband for a good reason: they would be going to Rome to receive the Pope's blessing.

ELENA MARCO
'Since we got married, we have both wanted to see the Pope. Some friends did it not too long ago and it inspired me to make sure we both go. I said, I am going to plan it without telling Fran. In case it doesn't work out, he won't be sad. I worked with my friends to make Fran think that we were going to the mountains.

The couple is in their thirties, and they were married just six months ago. Together with other couples from throughout the world, they received Pope Francis' blessing.

FRANCISCO SANTAMARíA
'We told him that my name is Francisco like him and he asked us where we were from. And to those next to us, he asked them if they already argue, but they told him no.

Although it wasn't their first time in Rome, this was a very special visit. It coincided with the start of the Jubilee of Mercy. And so they were some of the first ones to cross through the Holy Door.

FRANCISCO SANTAMARíA
'He spoke a little about the Holy Year, the beginning of mercy. He gave us the advice that we must base our love on mercy. And after the ceremony, we had asked to greet him and he blessed the rings.

Elena switched out their suitcase full of winter clothes with their wedding outfits. It was one of the few lies one can appreciate.
