The Pope dedicated his reflection during the Regina Coeli to the war that is developing in Ukraine.

POPE FRANCIS
'I am thinking of the ordeal of those who suffer the consequences of the violence in Ukraine: of those who continue to live in lands that are turned upside-down by hostilities that have caused thousands of deaths, and of those â?? over a million â?? who have been forced to leave due to the grave situation that persists.â?

He explained that he prays for the people affected by violence, and especially for the weak, the elderly, and the children. He said he wants to support the Ukrainian people, not only with prayers.

POPE FRANCIS
'To this end, there will be a special collection in all European churches on Sunday April 24. I invite the faithful to join this initiative with a generous contribution.'

Once again, Pope Francis called for peace in Ukraine, involved in a war since April of 2014. He also recalled that today is the International Day for awareness against landmines and therefore, made a strong appeal.

POPE FRANCIS
'Too many people are still being killed or maimed by these terrible weapons and many brave men and women risk their lives to clear mine sites. Let us renew, please, the commitment to a world without mines!'

According to the UN, during 2015, one person died every day as a result of such devices. Afghanistan and Colombia are the two countries that are most affected by anti-personnel landmines.
