Just look at this document. It is known as the 'Dictatus Papae.' With it, Pope Gregory VII ordered the world to submit to his mandate in 1075. And this is the bull with which St. John XXIII convened the Second Vatican Council in 1961.

Almost a millennium of history has traveled through the presidential palace in the island of Malta with the exhibition 'Mercy in Mystery.'

MARIE LOUISE COLEIRO
President of Malta
'A lot of Maltese people are very much intrigue with the span of 1.000 years of history, with regards to the historical events. a number of main historical events that have happened and that really put focus on western civilization.

FRANK ZAMMIT
Co-organizer of the exhibition
'I describe the discussions with the Holy See as constructive and fruitful. It took around seven months to have the documents in our hands.

These are 25 replicas of historical manuscripts that have come to the Vatican for the first time. Among them, some as relevant as the bull excommunicating Martin Luther and the proceedings of the trial of Galileo.

JOSEPH FAVA
Co-organizer of the exhibition
'There are letters of great personalities like Michelangelo, Copernicus, Bernini, all kind of letters, for example, Michelangelo wrote to his friend, the bishop of Cesena, asking for financial help. We have a contract between Bernini and the merchant of marble, buying two blocks of marble to sculpture his famous two angels.

Not lacking are the handwritten letters that, for instance, Lucrezia Borgia wrote to her father, or the ones that Pope Alexander VI and Marie Antoinette of France wrote.

In more recent times, this collection of Vatican stamps and coins has been revealed to the public.

After the exhibition, this book will collect all of the precious documents. The proceeds will go towards the charitable foundation, Malta Community Chest Fund.
