Pope Francis meets with a delegation of Tendai Buddhists

First, they greeted each other in the Oriental fashion, and after did so in the Western way. Pope Francis met with Koei Morikawa, the leader of Tendai Buddhism, a branch born more than 1200 years ago. ;

On his way to the inter-religious meeting for peace in Assisi, he stopped by Rome to visit Pope Francis. ;

Morikawa was accompanied by a large delegation. He gave Pope Francis several gifts, including this cane. ;

In return, Pope Francis gave him a copy of his encyclical Laudato si'. Then, they said farewell in the same way they met, with a bow and a handshake.
