Council of Europe approves Vatican's Progress Report on Anti-Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism
December 9, 2013. MONEYVAL, the “Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism” has approved today the Progress Report of the Holy See/ Vatican City State.
Pope issues decree for Causes of Saints
December 9, 2013. Following a meeting with the prefect for the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Pope Francis declared an Italian priest killed in Myanmar (Burma) a martyr. He also confirmed a miracle attributed to a late Italian nun, and he recognized the heroic virtues of 10 other Servants of God.
December 9, 2013. On Monday morning, Pope Francis welcomed Denis Sassou-Nguesso, president for the Republic of the Congo at 10:30AM. Immediately after, he met with Card. Angelo Amato, the prefect for the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. At 11:45, the Pope welcomed Card. Elio Sgreccia, president emeritus of the Pontifical Academy for Life. He was followed by Msgr. Giambattista Diquattro, Apostilic Nuncio to Boliva.
December 9, 2013. Pope Francis appointed Ghanian Card. Peter Turkson as the Vatican's special envoy to the Official Ceremony in honor of late South African President Nelson Mandela. The ceremony for the beloved leader will take place on Tuesday, December 10, in Johannesburg. Over 60 other heads of state and government are expected to attend.
December 6, 2013. Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Msgr. Alessando Pagani, and named Msgr. Monfort Stima as the Bishop of Mangochi (Malawi). The Pope also appointed Rutilo Felipe Pozos Lorenzini and Tomás López Durán as auxiliary bishops for the Archdiocese of Puebla (Mexico).
December 6, 2013. The Pope's Friday schedule began at 9AM with the second Advent Sermon at the Redemptoris Mater Chapel. At 9:45, he met with Card. Antonio Cañizares Llovera, prefect for the Congregation for Divine Worship, followed by Card. Karl Josef Becker. At 10:30, the Pope welcomed António Guterres, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. At 11, he met with Msgr. Joseph Spiteri, Apostlic Nuncio to Ivory Coast, and then with Msgr. Edgar Peña Parra, Apostolic Nuncio to Pakistan. His morning schedule ended with an audience with the International Theological Commission at 12:10PM.
Pope creates new commission to help sex abuse victims
December 5, 2013. Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley announced that Pope Francis has approved the creation of a new commission to help prevent the sexual abuse of children, as well as to provide "help and support" for victims. The commission was an idea generated by the Council of Cardinals and approved by the Pope.
Vatican Secretary of State greets Council of Cardinals
December 4, 2013. During their Tuesday afternoon session, the Vatican said the Council of Cardinals met briefly with Msgr. Pietro Patrolin to congratulate him on his new post as Secretary of State. The G8 continued their work into Wednesday, analyzing each of the Roman Curia's departments. Pope Francis was not in the morning session, since he had the General Audience.
Pope talks about resurrection during General Audience
December 4, 2013. The Pope continued his series on the Creed during Wednesday's General Audience. He spoke about the resurrection of Jesus Christ and its relationship to Catholics today. The General Audience took place in St. Peter's Square, instead of the Paul VI Hall, as normal for this time of year.
December 3, 2013. Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Msgr. Antonio Bayter Abud, and named Fr. Joselito Carreño Quiñonez to take his place as Apostolic Vicar of Inírida (Colombia). He also named Carlos Alberto Correa Martinez as Apostolic Vicar to Guapi (Colombia); and Msgr. Jorge Vásquez and Fr. Carlos Alberto Novoa de Agustini as auxiliaries in Lomas de Zamora (Argentina).
December 2, 2013. Today the Pope will meet at 10:30 a.m. with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Then at 11:15, with Cardinal Julio Terrazas Sandoval, the archbishop emeritus of Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia). At 11:30, he welcomes the Bishops' Conference of the Netherlands for an “ad limina” visit.
November 29, 2013. José Luis Gerardo Ponce de León, I.M.C., is the new bishop of Manzini (Swaziland). The Pope also named him as Apostolic Administrator for the diocese, ad nutum Sanctae Sedis. In Belarus, Aleh Butkevich is the new bishop of Vitebsk; Yury Kasabutski is the new auxiliary bishop of Minsk-Mohilev; Iosif Staneuski is the new auxiliary bishop of Grodno.

Pope Francis sends letter to young prisoners in California
May 20, 2013. (Romereports.com) These images of Pope Francis washing the feet of young prisoners on Holy Thursday, traveled a lot further than Romes juvenile detention center. From afar, young inmates, who face life in prison, in the County of Los Angeles, were directly touched by the Popes actions. Through the Jesuit Restorative Justice Initiative, some of those prisoners, sent letters to Pope Francis thanking him for sharing that day with prisoners, and also asking for prayers.
