November 3, 2012. (Romereports.com) Making sure everything is ready for the Pope’s next international meeting with young people, some 40,000 volunteers are making the final preparations for the next World Youth Day to be held in Rio de Janeiro in July 2013.
Volunteering offers another way to participate in WYD and will help greatly in the logistics of the event, which include: arranging accommodations for pilgrims, helping prepare the special events with the Pope and assisting with communication. The only requirement is that volunteers be over 18 years old. And language is not an issue. A volunteer can choose to join immediately or up to 15 days prior to July 23rd, the day WYD begins.
To sign up, all you have to do is complete this form found on the official website of the Rio World Youth Day before the end of 2012. To facilitate coordination among all volunteers, a blog and a Facebook page have been created to give the latest information on all the planning.
In the last World Youth Day in Madrid more than 20,000 volunteers helped out. Rio currently has double that number with 40,000 volunteers – an encouraging sign that the next World Youth Day will also be a big success.
