November 11, 2010. The fifth G20 summit meets
on November 11in Seoul, South Korea. This will be the first summit
to be held in a country not belonging to the G8.
In a letter the Pope wrote
to the G20, he said the location of the summit in South Korea is a
“recognition of significant economic development in this country,
which also marks the importance of the Asian economy in the
twenty-first century.”
In light of the economic
crisis still plaguing the world economy, the Pope asked for the
cooperation of the entire international community because the future
of upcoming generations depends on it.
He also asked the world
leaders attending the conference keep in mind “the authentic and
integral development of mankind.”
The Pope wrote a similar
letter in April to the G20 summit when it was held in London. He
asked they not forget ethics and aid towards Africa.
