May 3, 2011. (Romereports.com) John Paul II's coffin has been transferred to its final resting place
in St. Sebastian Chapel. The blessed pope now rests next to
Michelangelo's statue of Pietá in St. Peter's Basilica. The coffin
was taken there after the Vatican held a private service to conclude
the beatification ceremony.
Before
his beatification on Sunday May 1st,
his coffin was taken from the Vatican's grotto to the altars of St.
Peter's Basilica.
After his beatification, roughly 400,000 people visited the Basilica
to pray before tomb of the now blessed.
John Paul II's tombstone is very simple. Inscribed in a stone, it
holds these words in Latin: “Beatus Joannes Paulus II.”
