Benedict XVI“I wish to renew my spiritual closeness to the dear people of that country who are facing up to the consequences of these calamities with dignity and courage.”When first news of the quake began to arrive, the pope sent a symbolic donation of $150,000 and began mobilizing all the structures of the Catholic Church in Japan in order to assist as many people as possible.
