June 10, 2010. Just hours before the start of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the Osservatore Romano has revealed the Vatican's picks for favorites in the competition. Despite being German, the Pope's official bets are on Spain, Brazil, Argentina or England to be world champions.

Today's announcement might serve as a blessing for the other 28 teams.  Eventual champion Italy wasn't among the Vatican's favorites back in 2006.
