August 20, 2009. The Vatican is preparing a DVD to show priests and the faithful how the Tridentine Mass is celebrated – also known as the “Traditional Mass”.

This mass, celebrated in Lain, is a predecessor of the current one and was adopted between the Council of Trent and the Second Vatican Council.

Seven years after the Council of Trent, in 1570, the Pope, St. Pius V published an edition of the Roman Missal. With this publication he did not create the new Mass, but he unified all the existing forms of liturgy. This lasted until 1963.

The DVD, being produced by the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei, will be available in four languages: Spanish, English, French and Italian.

The video features the recording of a complete Mass following the Latin rite.

It also highlights the various moments and actions during the celebration, such as the preparation or key moments of the Mass.

In this way, the Holy See wants the faithful to know and better understand the Tridentine Mass, especially after Pope Benedict XVI’s allowing it to be celebrated universality without special permission.
