YoutubeDecember 18, 2011. (Romereports.com) Benedict XVI has turned the Catholic group “Aid to the Church in Need” into a Papal Foundation. Their new president is the current Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, Cardinal Mauro Piacenza.

The Catholic Association was founded in 1947 after a call by Pius XII to all believers after the Second World War. It was a petition to help the 14 million refugees and expelled Germans.

It was founded by the Dutch priest Werenfried Van Straaten and since then it has been working to help refugees and persecuted Christians.

Today the “Aid to the Church in Need” is present in over 140 countries and each year develops around 5,000 projects. Benedict XVI thanked the group for their service to the Church. In addition to social work, it also promotes the strengthening of Catholic faith and morals.
