June 28, 2011. (Romereports.com) Archbishop Pietro Sambi, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, died on Wednesday at the age of 73. He was suffering from health complications which worsened after undergoing lung surgery roughly two weeks ago.
Back in 2005, Pope Benedict XVI appointed, Sambi as a nuncio to the U.S, where he was based in the nation's capital. Before this, the archbishop served as an ambassador in Indonesia and Israel. The Italian archbishop was also an apostolic delegate in Jerusalem and Palestine.
His funeral is scheduled for Saturday August 6th at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.
