YoutubeJanuary 15, 2013. (Romereports.com) Long before his election as Benedict XVI, Joseph Ratzinger served as the prefect for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Yet even before then, Ratzinger had already achieved status as one of the most prolific Catholic writers.

Upon his election as Pope, and in a large display of confidence in his fellow countryman, Ratzinger tasked Archbishop Gerhard Muller, with overseeing his body of work. Recently, Msgr. Muller presented Expanding the Horizon of Reason, his book which features speeches and texts highlighting the main themes of Ratzinger's theological work.

“He has the possibility to explain in simple words understandable for all but very profound contents and very deep insights.”

As the title explains, Muller presents as one of Ratzinger's biggest legacies his attempts to marry faith and reason, as complimentary to each other.

He states that faith without reason can lead to fanaticism, while reason without faith fails to provide a context from which we can answer life's existential questions.

“The faith is not only linked with the past. We are a big history in our Catholic faith. FLASH But young man cannot only live from the past, they must have the perspective to the future.”

In addition to the now-Pope's words on faith and reason, the book features four other chapters with texts from Ratzinger's other works.

Among them, he highlights the Pope's stance on the importance of new media in the era of globalization, and how the Internet can be useful for the New Evangelization.
