May 11, 2012. (Romereports.com) Miami Archbishop Thomas Wenski believes that
Obama's support for same sex marriage is a political move meant to
be a distraction during this year's election campaign.

“It's interesting that the president would make this announcement at this particular time. Last week it seemed that the press was saying that the election was going to be about the economy. And I think the economy has not improved in ways that people had hoped it would. And if the election was going to be about the economy then that would not be favorable to the president and to his administration."
The archbishop believes that the strategy will not work because states like Florida and California which voted for Obama in 2008 also voted for initiatives to protect marriage between a man and a woman.

“Children deserve to have a father and mother who are joined in love together and in marriage, because that provides the best environment for these children to grow.”
Thomas Wenski is in Rome as part of his ad limina visit, the regular meeting held by bishops with the Pope and the different Vatican departments.
