January 9, 2013. (Romereports.com) More than 100 million Christians worldwide suffer from
persecution, according to the non-denominational agency
Open Doors International. In 2013, the majority of countries are located in
Asia or Africa. The worst country for Christians is North Korea.
Rounding out the top 10 are
Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Maldives, Mali, Iran, Yemen and Eritrea. The on-going civil war, that has displaced hundreds of thousands of people, has landed
Syria just one slot outside the top 10 at number 11. Two places behind at 13 is
Nigeria, which has seen increasing violence towards Christians in the Muslim north of the country.
Meanwhile, the only country on the list outside of Africa or Asia is
Colombia, at number 46, due to guerrilla violence against priests and Christians. Overall, Asia had the most countries on the list with 31, while Africa has 18, and South America has one.
