May 13, 2009. On Palestinian territory, Benedict XVI took the opportunity to share his solidarity for the people of Gaza who’s lives continue to be afflicted by war.
Benedict XVI
My heart goes out to the pilgrims from war-torn Gaza: I ask you to bring back to your families and your communities my warm embrace, and my sorrow for the loss, the hardship and the suffering you have had to endure.
He said it in Bethlehem’s Manger Sqaure, the city’s center, during the first mass he’s celebrated on Palestinian soil. The “Our Father” and “Regina Coeli” prayers were appropriately said in Arabic.
