January 25, 2010. Pope Benedict XVI has personally written a letter to Haiti’s President René Préval, in the wake of the January 12th earthquake.
According to a copy of the letter on the Vatican’s website, the pope
expressed the Church’s solidarity with the people of Haiti.
Benedict XVI also expressed his appreciation to the international
community for its committed to rescuing and providing first aid to
survivors.
The pope pledged the Catholic Church will maintain a presence in the
country to help with reconstruction efforts in areas devastated by the
earthquake.
The pope also addressed a second letter to Archbishop of Cap-Haitien, Louis Kérebreau.
