He was welcomed by the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, his wife Margarita Zavala, and the Archbishop José Guadalupe Martín Rábago of Leon, Mexico. During the welcoming ceremony, a goup of children presented the pope with a gift. There were also hundreds of onlookers present to greet the pope.
