May 7, 2012. (Romereports.com) Thousands of pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square to pray the Regina Coeli with Pope Benedict XVI. There, the pontiff spoke about the union of God with mankind, and reflected on human freedom.
Benedict XVI
“If people incline their heart toward God and ask for his help, they
will receive the strength to carry out their work. For this reason,
human freedom and the power of God go together.”
Benedict XVI also spoke about the figure of the Peruvian saint Martín de
Porres, who was canonized by Pope John XXIII fifty years ago on May 6,
1962.
Benedict XVI“Today we remember also the fiftieth anniversary of the canonization of
St. Martín de Porres, who we ask to intercede for the work of the New
Evangelization, which kindles holiness in the Church.”
Next Sunday is May 13, the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima. To
celebrate, Benedict XVI will pray the Regina Coeli in the Italian city
of Arezzo, where he will make a pastoral visit.
