According to the Pope, a defense of political, economic, or social rights that does not include defending the right to life is entirely false and impossible. This was addressed to a group of Brazilian bishops, a few days before Brazil's presidential elections. They will be held on October 31 and the pro-life vote will be a decisive factor.

The Pope added that bishops and priests can not say for which political party Catholics should vote. However, they are required to indicate what principles prevent us from constructing a more just society.
