YoutubeOctober 9, 2009. Benedict XVI has awarded the Papal Cross of Honor to Mother Angelica, founder of EWTN. It’s the highest recognition that the pope gives to laypeople and members of religious orders to thank them for their work.

Eternal World Television Network is probably the network that offers the most content on the Catholic Church . It began in 1981 in the garage of the Our Lady of the Angels monastery in Alabama. Mother Angelica, a member of the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, decided to take on the new venture without knowing anything about the world of television.

After not being successful, her fellow sisters encouraged Mother Angelica to try again. This time she pitched a half hour show on God to CBS.

She worked with them for a year and a half, and left when the network aired a movie that she considered inappropriate. That’s when she decided to found EWTN.

In 1999 the network was relocated because it was growing so quickly. Some 150 million homes have access to EWTN in more than 140 countries.
