YoutubeAugust 16, 2010. During the feast of the Assumption, the Pope prayed the Angelus with pilgrims who traveled to Castel Gandolfo.

Speaking from the Apostolic Palace, Benedict XVI explained how the love of the Virgin Mary has been a constant since the beginning of Christianity.

Benedict XVI

"The veneration of the Virgin Mary accompanied the path of the Church from the beginning and through the history of salvation. From the fourth century there have been Marian feasts. Some emphasize the role of the Virgin in the history of salvation, others her earthly existence. "

The Pope said that although her soul and body are in heaven, she has never ceased to intercede  for the salvation of Christians.

Benedict XVI
"To her, guide of the Apostles, support of the Martyrs, Light of the Saints, let us direct our prayer begging her to join us in this life, helping us to gain Heaven."

Finally, the Pope asked the Virgin to strengthen the faith and hope of all, mediating the mother's love she has for each one.
