February 13, 2013. (Romereports.com) (-VIDEO ONLY-) The archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica, Cardinal Angelo Comastri, distributed the ashes to Benedict XVI for his last occasion as Pope.   

In previous years, Ash Wednesday took place at the Basilica of Saint Sabina in Rome. However, after the Pope's resignation announcement, the Vatican decided to move it to St. Peter's Basilica so that a larger number of people could attend the ceremony.
