Benedict XVI explained how these orders showed that it is possible to live evangelical poverty while staying faithful to the Church.
The Pope stressed the importance of St. Dominic and St. Francis of Assisi, the founders of the Mendicant Orders have in the history of the Church and the world. They learned to face the challenges and needs of society at that time.
Benedict XVI
“May their example of holiness and evangelical lifestyle inspire our own witness to the Gospel and our efforts to draw the world to Christ and his Church.”
