October 10, 2012. (Romereports.com) One day before the start of the Year of Faith, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the begining of the Second Vatican Council, Benedict XVI reflected on the importance of the event during his weekly general audience.
“As we begin tomorrow the Year of Faith, it is more necessary than ever to return to the documents of this great Council, which was convoked, in the words of Blessed John the twenty-third, to proclaim the truths of the faith in a “renewed” way, all the while keeping intact their perennial content”, said Benedict XVI
Pope Benedict spoke about the documents prepared during the Vatican Council and called them a “compass for the Church”. Benedict XVI “The fiftieth anniversary of the Council thus reminds us that the Church, in all its members, has the task of transmitting the message of God’s love which saves and which leads us to eternal beatitude”.
At the end of the general audience some of the participants at the synod on the New Evangelization greeted the pope and gave him this picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
