April 8, 2009. Benedict XVI has expressed an interest in going to Abruzzo to visit those who have been affected by the earthquake that hit Italy on Monday.  The Pope also spoke of the importance of solidarity and cooperation for overcoming tragedy.

Benedict XVI
Once again I wish to say to those dear people that the Pope shares in their sadness and concerns.  Dearest ones, I hope to come to you as soon as possible.  You know that the Pope prays for all of you, imploring the mercy of the Lord for the deceased and for the relatives and survivors, and for maternal comfort from Mary and the support of Christian hope.

The Pope focused his speech on the significance of Holy Week and dedicated a special greeting to the 4,300 youth participants of the 2009 UNIV Congress who were gathered in Saint Peter’s Square.

Benedict XVI
Dear friends, I urge you to respond with joy the Lord’s call in order to give full meaning to your life: in study, in relations with colleagues, family and society.  As Josémaria Escrivà used to say,  “Many great things depend, don’t forget, on the fact that you and I behave the way God wants.

The Pope will preside over the ceremonies of Holy Week.  As is customary, he will walk the Via Crucis on Friday at the Colosseum and on Easter Sunday he will impart the Urbi et Orbi  blessing.
